Hi everybody!

The group’s been making some serious headway on getting the content for our new website (designed by our own Justin Monk) up.

A fair amount of our film pages are up and have at least some blurbs about them. Most have video links where applicable. We also have five (out of seven) team member bios posted. So things are coming along!

Be sure to check the site over the next few weeks as we tinker some more to get everything fine-tuned. And if you see any glaring errors…blame Craig. Silly Craig.

While a few projects have been completed and released, there were a few projects (many that were being produced just prior to or during Key Pixel’s formative years) that were left on the cutting room floor at various stages in production.

Broken Worlds is an exercise in editing together the footage from four separate, incomplete and abandoned fan film projects, creating a “What If?” scenario, tying numerous story elements together into a trailer for a hypothetical crossover film. It is an homage to the casts and crews of the various projects, to finally see a bit of their hard work released.

The film projects used were the two iterations of Justin Monk’s Lost Soul project (filmed in 2003 and 2004, respectively), Bryan Patrick Stoyle’s Tortured Soul (filmed in 2005), and Andrew Hookway’s End of the Order (filmed in 2005).

Instability was originally created for the “True to John Woo” short film competition. Writer Laszlo Kovacs inserted an old character into his story (Negotiator Blacksmith) and crafted a unique narrative of using HIV-positive blood as a weapon. While not a winner in the competition, the short has proven to be an effective project for the Key Pixel team.

In addition to the “True to John Woo” contest, Instability has also been featured on Ain’t It Cool News as a runner-up in Vern’s “Yippee Ki Yay, Moviegoer” contest.

The year is 2106 and the world is slowly rebuilding from a near-apocalyptic breakdown in human society caused by the global crash of cybernetic systems. The Greater Toronto Republic is growing in political and social unrest due to rising crime from and towards cybernetically enhanced citizens, with only the police keeping a thin margin of order.

A few months have passed since the events of UCF: Toronto Cybercide. Led by the enigmatic politician Enoch Chrom, the cybernetics-hating Luddites become a social movement, straining human-cyborg relations to a breaking point. When the Luddites brazenly attack one of the city’s largest cybernetic prisons it is up to UCF Marshal Pax and Toronto Detectives Ngami Tsiu and James Johnson to stop them. But there may be more to Chrom’s raid than anyone realizes…

UCF: Toronto Cybercide is a low-budget science fiction short, telling a crime story in a post-infocrash world. Technology was advancing to the point of a large global information network when in 2078, that network suddenly and permanently went offline. The world is left in shambles, and the survivors are slowly rebuilding. Cybernetic technology, seen as the cause of the crash but still necessary in the reconstruction, is a grey area in society. The Unified Cybernetics Foundation (UCF) has been created to limit the misuse of cybernetic technology, and control the amount of hate crimes that has been growing in the few civilized areas established throughout North America.

The year is 2106. A killer is on the loose, targeting cybernetic interfaces. A Marshal from the Foundation is sent to assist two Toronto detectives with solving the mystery of the killer’s identity, and neutralizing the threat. The plot is further complicated when a local crime boss decides to stake an interest in whatever Foundation secrets may be uncovered.

The future of crime is here. The future of justice is ready.
